Kate Crespi Appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute as Member of Advisory Panel on Clinical Trials

Professors Sudipto Banerjee and Marc Suchard elected to the fellowship of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA)

Professors Sudipto Banerjee and Marc Suchard have been elected to the fellowship of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA). These fellowships were formally conferred at the ISBA World Meeting in Edinburugh, Scotland, on June 29th. 2018.

Professor Ron Brookmeyer and Professor of Epidemiology Roger Detels, Former Dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, gave a workshop on The Evaluation of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Intervention Programs in Hangzhou China in September 2017.  This is the 5th such workshop led by Professors Brookmeyer and Detels in each of the last 5 years in provinces throughout China. The workshops are by invitation of the national Chinese Centers for Disease Control in collaboration with its chief epidemiologist Zunyou Wu and focus on statistical and epidemiological methods. Bioscience research initiative honors UCLA's Steve Horvath for his work on epigenetic clock

The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, a bioscience research initiative, awarded UCLA’s Steve Horvath an Allen Distinguished Investigator award. This award is given to researchers conducting pioneering research in epigenetics, aging and evolution. Each investigator is funded at $1.5 million over three years, totaling $7.5 million in funding. Eric Kawaguchi selected as one of the winners of the Student/Post-Doc Poster Award at the 2017 Lifetime Data Science Conference

Eric Kawaguchi, a second-year doctoral student of UCLA's Department of Biostatistics, was selected as one of the three winners of the Student/Post-Doc Poster Award at the 2017 Lifetime Data Science Conference at the University of Connecticut. His poster presentation was on large scale sparse Cox's regression with applications to large drug safety studies. Congratulations to Eric!

Research by Dr. Steve Horvath on epigenetic clock featured in numerous news articles

Not a senior moment--just a biologically older brain.
Research by Dr. Steve Horvath, a professor of human genetics and biostatistics at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine and Fielding School of Public Health, that led to an epigenetic clock that tracks biological aging was covered May 22 and May 19 in respective stories by The Scientist and GenomeWeb about how people’s brain tissue ages at different rates. The epigenetic clock was also cited May 18 in a STAT News story about the death of Fox News’ former CEO, Roger Ailes.
